Secondary Years

SECONDARY - KEY STAGE (3 & 4):

The Secondary Department at KIES works closely within the guidelines of the National Curriculum for England. It offers a range of compulsory subjects which all students have to study. The students’ transition from children to young adults and more independent learners, who take responsibility for themselves and for their own learning, is one of the key focuses of the Secondary Department.  We aim to provide a diverse curriculum that has been designed to offer a balanced education, one that will further develop the knowledge and skills acquired by students during their primary school years and also prepare them for IGCSE level study and formal exams. At KIES we strive to help students develop their talents and skills and to reach their full potential in the classroom and through our wide range of extra-curricular activities. The students also have many opportunities to visit various locations around Kuwait as part of their learning experience.

Key Stage 4 covers education in Year 10 and 11. It marks an important time in a student’s education. At KIES, we aim to help our students make the academic choices and prepare for the exams that will give them access to top universities and their future goals. This is the first opportunity for students to really select and tailor their own curriculum strengths and their interests, fusing these with core skills and knowledge required in the future. At Key Stage 4, English, Mathematics, Arabic, Islamic and PE are compulsory, but there is also a range of ‘option’ subjects to choose from such as physics, chemistry, biology, business studies, history, geography, art, ICT, computer science, music, drama and French for students to study for IGCSE. At the end of Years 10 and 11 students can sit an external examination under the auspices of the Edexcel and Cambridge Examination Boards. By the time students reach Key Stage 4, all pupils are encouraged to be individuals and independent learners. A wide range of teaching styles are used to meet the students’ needs, from quality textbooks to interactive whiteboards. Our aim is to provide a settled environment where studies can be pursued in an adult atmosphere.
